GIRLGO was founded in 2015 to connect young girls to culture exchange, education, career and global impact opportunities. We combine tourism, education and personal enrichment into one exhilarating and life-changing experience. The organization is a ‘sorority’ and that means we’re a sisterhood, with a goal to build lifetime connections. The experiences we handcraft for each trip, are designed to prepare our girls for a world of possibilities, early, so that she can enter into college, career and life, equipped, cultured and well rounded to make her mark on the world.
Orvieto, Italy in the region of Umbria
ABOUT ORVIETO, ITALY, OUR HOME
The perfect destination. Italy, a country filled with beauty, history, richness and wonder, is the homebase for GIRLGO and all of its programs. Orvieto, our quaint little medieval hilltop town, is located in the region of Umbria, just one hour north of Rome. It’s known as the green heart of Italy, and many mistaken its lush verde valleys and vineyards for Tuscany. The people are curious, gratuitous and friendly. The food and history are authentic and delicious. You will find unique local artisan shops and happenings at every corner — like shoemaker shops, artists, theatre, music and cooking classes to name a few. The town is best described as a close-knit village, with most conveniences like supermarkets, pharmacies, cell phone storefronts and many-many restaurants. By train or by car, it’s easy to dash to the big city, international airport or cruiseport in no time. Florence, Naples, Amalfi, Venice and Milan are only hours away. We’ll sleep, eat and spend our down-time here.
FROM THE FOUNDER
I think it‘s cool that I come from a place where not many options were presented for me to explore the world. And yet I ended up with many options to not only explore the world, but to bring others along with me. I’ve been stuck in my hood. I’ve been curious about something different. I’ve been afraid. And I’ve been brave. Like me and many others who defy their limitations, you can take the step from local to international-minded; inexperienced to cultured. I was the girl, whom I hope to inspire.
GIRLGO empowers girls to travel abroad, experience new culture, build amazing relationships, develop valuable skills and make a difference in the world.
Our summer programs are a blend of tourism and educational projects designed to introduce the girls to study abroad, sisterhood and international culture.
Take a gap year and spend four months abroad! When you take time off from school, you’ll gain time for self-development, building ideas and leading global projects.
Serving underserved girls at home and abroad is a mission dear to the heart of GIRLGO. Our Global Impact programs provide socioeconomic solutions through entrepreneurship & technology.
